Redirect Gadget;

Return CGI Library

Ever wonder how many people link off of your page, and wonder where they went? Well now you can find out. Using this gadget allows you to set links which "bounce" off our server (after being logged) and take the browser to the intended destination site.

Warning: This gadget might not work for some browsers behind proxy servers or firewalls.

The magic codes are:
<a href="/cgi-bin/redir?http://some.other.server/some/path">

With the current implementation of the gadget, no special information is recorded. To count the redirects, you will need to look through the log for your virtual server.

In the example above, the browser is sent to http://some.other.server/some/path. But there is a "hit" on the local server with the complete /cgi-bin/... URL, so you can tell which link was taken.

In the future, this gadget will be updated to function much like a counter -- it will count the page and link combination, so you will know where the browser linked FROM and TO, and have a count of how many times that link was taken.

The redirection process may NOT be transparent for all browsers. In the worst case, a screen will appear stating that the document has moved to a new (specified) location, and provide a link to that location.
